Dr. Craig is an award-winning author, educator and DJ whose career meshes his love of writing, teaching, and music. His research inhabits the intersection of writing and rhetoric, sound studies and Hip Hop studies. Presently, he is an Associate Professor of English at the CUNY Graduate Center and African American Studies at New York City College of Technology.
His award-winning book, “K for the Way”: DJ Rhetoric and Literacy for 21st Century Writing Studies examines the Hip Hop DJ as twenty-first century new media reader, writer, and creator of the discursive elements of DJ rhetoric and literacy. It won the 2024 David H. Russell Award for Distinguished Research in the Teaching of English from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the 2024 Conference on College Composition and Communication Advancement of Knowledge Award.

This workshop engaged the intersection of writing, sound, and technology to tap into how students envision communication practices. In this workshop, Todd Craig offered a live DJ set and facilitated a conversation about how we use sonics, writing and technology in our daily educational practices. Together, we considered how instructors across disciplines might bring their authentic multimodal selves into their teaching practices to inform and enhance student writing.

Dr. Craig’s visit included a book talk and book signing at For Keeps Books in downtown Atlanta with an opening set by Atlanta-based DJ Graciela Cain. Graciela opened the book talk with a presentation on their BA thesis for the Georgia State University Africana Studies program, which drew on Dr. Craig’s work.
